UrSpore is a fan site dedicated to the soon to be released computer game Spore. Spore is a life simulation game created by Will Wright. The game gives you control of the evolution of a species from a tiny multicellular organism (e.g. an amoeba) to the heights of sentience and galactic domination. The possibilities are endless.
Spore is Will Wright's (Sim City, The Sims) new masterpiece. The concept behind Spore is fantastic; you guide the evolution of a single-celled organism from a drop of water to the furthest reaches of the universe. You decide exactly what your creature is like, evolving it with legs, eyes, heads, and whatever else your god complex desires.

The evolutionary process starts from single cell, which will then evolve into a fish and so on, much like the way in which we humans evolved. At some point, you may decide that you want to give your species legs so that they are finally able to walk on land. Eventually, your creature will learn how to make tools and weapons, start their own city and build vehicles, and even build a UFO and explore other player's planets and possibly even invade them!

Spore is totally customizable; you may choose how your creatures will look, function and behave, all through your design and interaction. This flexibility also extends to their vehicles looks like, as well as the style of your architecture.

When evolving your creature you may decide to make an incredibly tall and thin thing with a huge head on top. The game will recognize this and so when your creation walks, it will react accordingly, meaning its head will sway from side to side when it turns corners. How this will affect its development is part of the fun of the game.

    Spore is a simulation that ranges from the molecular phase to the galactic phase. The set game phases are:

  • Tide pool phase
    Kill and eat on a the small scale. Survive, grow and evolve in micro organism form. It's survival of the fittest at the most microscopic level.
  • Creature Phase
    Now you have a creature with more than a handful cells. Evolve it, hunt with it, teach it and encourage ‘sexy time’ all you want. The only way to grow is by taking chances!
  • Tribal Phase
    Now the physical evolution stops and a brain develop. The game turns in to a RTS were you control a bunch of creatures. Give them tools, clothes and develop the tribe.
  • Civilization Phase
    A SimCity meets Civilization. Change your city, create your vehicles, fly a kite, make war … or not. The goal now is to colonise the planet and become the dominant species/race.
  • Space Phase
    You can never have too much money or too many planets. In this phase, move into the solar system and beyond. Abduct cows and invent that ‘alien probe’, make contact and setup trade, colonize and conquer, or do whatever else your heart desires, all in the unlimited realm of the universe.
